P&O Ferries are celebrating after their fleet of ships operating out of Hull have been awarded the highest food hygiene rating, according to an article on the Hull Daily Mail website.

P&O ships Pride of Hull, Pride of Rotterdam, Pride of York and Pride of Bruges all gained a five in the most recent inspection. The inspections are unannounced and are carried out by inspectors sailing with the vessel, who inspect preparation, service and cleaning operations.

There are about ten chefs on each ship catering for up to two thousand people per day. This includes buffet breakfast and evening meal, as well as the choice of sit-down meal. Ferry bosses have recently overhauled the way food is prepared during a buffet service, with smaller portions in order to avoid waste and to prevent food being left out for a length of time.
