About Stromness

Stromness ferry port is located on the south west coast of mainland Orkney and offers views of a picturesque waterfront to passengers arriving at the port. Ferries from Stromness sail daily to Scrabster on Scotland's north east coast.

Getting to Stromness Ferry Port

Stromness ferry terminal is well sign-posted from the town centre, and is helpfully located on Ferry Road! Kirkwall is just 16 miles away.

Buses stop opposite the ferry terminal, with a service from Stromness connecting to the evening ferries both from and to Hatston, the ferry terminal just outside Kirkwall.

Stromness Ferry Port Facilities

Vending machines are available, selling hot and cold drinks. There is a café/bistro across the road, and other cafés and restaurants are located within the centre of town, a few minutes walk from the ferry terminal building.

The ferry terminal has disabled access and an adapted toilet for the sole use of disabled people, 17m from the accessible entrance. The ferry terminal has its own short-stay car park with a limited number of disabled parking spaces close the main entrance, and long-stay car parks are available a short distance away on Ferry Road. Wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge for use between the ship and terminal building. Please advise at the time of booking if you require assistance.

Monday - Friday: 05.30 - 16.45 and 20.30 - 23.30. Saturday and Sunday: 07.30 - 16.45 and 20.30 - 23.30.

A tourist information centre is located in the terminal building.

Short-term parking is available at the port. The ferry terminal does not have its own long-stay parking facilities. These can be found on Ferry Road, a short distance away.
